It has not (yet) been translated into English and I wasn’t entirely tempted by the book cover — but you know what they say about judging those — and I decided to read it anyway after having read several book reviews from the Mango and Salt (French-speaking) book club.
Snow Falling on Cedars is an American whodunnit written by David Guterson and published in 1994. It focuses on the trial of a Japanese man who is accused of having murdered an American fisherman because of a dispute over a piece of land. The story is set in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor and WWII that made enemies out of the Japanese community. Needless to say, racial tensions are running high…
Still Life is a British drama that was released in 2015. Written and produced by Uberto Pasolini, it stars Eddie Marsan and Joanne Froggatt (aka Anna in Downton Abby!). It focuses on a meticulous middle aged man whose job is to organize funerals and cremations for the people who die alone in his area.
